Hi everyone! Today I have Great Lakes Lacquer's newest collection called The Great Ones to share with you. These beauties are inspired by maker Mariah's beloved Great Lakes in Michigan, which is of course what her brand is named for. I think it is fitting that for her 1 year anniversary that she has come full-circle and is paying homage to the beautiful lakes which inspired her brand's name. The Great Ones Collection released today in the Great Lakes Lacquer shop.
Lake Superior is a deep green-leaning teal with green/purple multichrome shimmer. The deep teal base almost looks navy to me in some lights. Formula was very easy to use and I used 2 coats for full coverage (no need for layering to get the shifting effect!). The green shift is very prominent with the purple only coming out at extreme angles.
"Inspired by the northern lights running across the lake at night."
Lake Michigan is a deep teal holo with multichrome flakes that shift from blue to green as well as blue/green shimmer. Formula was fantastic to use and I used 3 thin coats for full coverage (but it was fine at 2 coats). This is SUCH a stunner and one of my favorites. The flakes add wonderful depth and interest to this polish and will be a no-brainer pick for all of the holo lovers out there.
"Inspired by the light green to aqua to deep blues of one of the most beautiful lakes in the world."
Lake Ontario is a sapphire blue jelly filled with 6 different kinds of blue flakes and scattered holo bits. This one was on the thicker side, but not in a bothersome way (mainly due to the myriad of flakes). You can use 2 coats for a more squishy look, but I like the additional depth a third thin coat provided. This one is even better in person!
"Inspired by the sapphire blue and deep sparkle that the big lakes can give off when blazed with sunlight."
"Inspired by the deep blue to purple with a red tint that Lake Erie can give off, especially after sunset."
Lake Huron is a deep blue with golden-green shimmer. Formula was nice to use and I used 3 thin coats for full coverage. I think Mariah did a fantastic job with this shimmer because it is glowy and nice and not brushstrokey in the least. Such a sophisticated and well-done shade!
"Inspired by the deep blue that throws back a green hue from the sunlight."
And finally I did a crazy mish-mash nail art look using all of the shades from the collection! I started off with a base of Lake Ontario and stamped it with a white (Pretty Serious Presence) using a wave stamp from MoYou-London Sailor Plate 07. Then I dabbed the other 4 shades from the collection on the plate and used them to do a double stamped look over the white. It turned out a little crazy, but it really liked it!
