Nail Art With Born Pretty Store Feather Water Decals

*Purchased by Me*

Hi everyone! Today I have a fun summery mani to share with you! I was scrolling through Facebook recently and one of my friends was wearing one of my favorite yellows ever, OPI I Just Can't Cope-acabana, so I had to pull it out for a mani. After I got it on my nails, I thought I would jazz it up with some nail art and I realized it had been an age since I had used any water decals. I found these lovely pink and white feather water decals from Born Pretty Store in my stash and they looked so pretty with the yellow! Water decals never fail to make me happy when I decide to use them, I need to do it more!

Rainbow Feathers featuring Born Pretty Store and FingerPaints

*Press Sample*

Hi everyone! Today I have a simple mani for you featuring some pretty Born Pretty Store feather decals that I ordered ages ago. I was fondly remembering a feather mani that I did last summer using some different bright feather decals from Born Pretty Store, so I decided to pull these out to liven up my day. Water decals are my kind of nail art because they are super simple to use and they look like you put a lot of effort into your mani. I keep a stash of them around for when I don't want to stamp, but want to spice up a nice creme mani.

For my mani, I started off with a base of FingerPaints Yellow Out Man (from the new Tie Dye Revolution Collection, which I will be reviewing later this week). I used the Fancy Colorful Feather water decals (item 1739). After my base was fully dry, I arranged the individual decals on my nails. I found that these adhered to the nail well and I didn't have any issues with them being too stiff or folding during application. The one strange thing I encountered was that the tips of the feathers on a few of my nails seemed to have a little bits of pigment or something that sort of disintegrated off onto the nail during application, but it brushed off the nail easily while it was still wet. It didn't affect the way that the decals looked either so it wasn't problematic, just worth mentioning. I really loved how bright and colorful this mani was. I was having a bit of a down week, so these cheered me right up!

Born Pretty Store Exquisite Water Marble Water Decal

*Purchased by Me*

Hi everyone! I'm working on swatching some things this weekend that I will begin sharing on Monday, but for today's post I'm actually sharing a mani I did a pretty good while ago (back in February, I think?). I had forgotten about it until I ran across these pictures in my pile of unposted mani photos. I only have two photos of this particular mani, but it really doesn't need too many pics to get the idea. ;)

AGES ago, I purchased these Exquisite Water Marble Decals from Born Pretty Store because I just loved the color scheme and I was intrigued by something that would mimic a water marble without all of the work. Since they were so colorful, I decided to use neutral base so they would really pop (I used Zoya Rue here). Now...I thought these ended up looking very cute but as far as them looking like an actual water marble was going on...I don't think they quite met the mark. On these decals one side of the design was flat so it was designed to lay up against the edge of your nail and the other side had the lovely marbled ripples. As you can see, my nails are quite wide so when they were placed against the side of the nail they only reached a little over halfway across my nail leaving a pretty wide expanse of my base color on the other side (thus detracting from the "marbled illusion"). I gave some thought about just centering them on my nails, but the one flat side of the design just hanging out in the open space looked extremely awkward. All of that being said, it still an extremely cute look but I just wanted to point out that I didn't think you were going to fool anyone into thinking you did a real water marble with these.

Aside from the design, I found that the quality of these decals was great and on par with other water decals I've purchased from Born Pretty Store. Since they are on the larger side, you do have to take care not to let them fold in half when you remove them from the paper because they will stick to themselves and you don't want to have to pry them apart with tweezers if you don't have to (though soaking them in water again really helps with this if it occurs. They were plenty long enough for my my nails and would also work for nails a bit longer than mine. The excess at the tips and cuticle melted away easily with my clean-up brush and acetone leaving a clean edge. These were really fun to wear and almost gave me a retro vibe. I think I wore them for a few days actually and had no issues with them lifting or peeling. Just writing this post has made me want to go pull out some water decals to wear from my stash, so you will likely see some more soon! I always love using them because they really jazz up a plain mani and very limited skill is required to use them.

Born Pretty Store Vintage Damask Stamping Plate Review

*Press Sample*

Hi everyone! I recently received a new stamping plate to review from Born Pretty Store and it's part of their new line which now includes some XL stamping plates. This is actually the second XL plate that I've reviewed (see the first one here) and I adore this one too. This plate is the Vintage Damask BP-L007 stamping plate. The images on this plate are gorgeous! They were large enough for my nails (length and width-wise) and had a good variety of images that could be used for tons of nail art looks. The plates were etched well and the images stamped crisply. There are actually 25 different images on this plate and the only downside is that all of the images aren't full nail images, but the smaller individual designs would look nice in combination with the other stamps to create cute, cohesive skittle manis.

Born Pretty Store Flowers & Leaves XL Plate Review

*Press Sample*

Hi everyone! I recently received a new stamping plate to review from Born Pretty Store and it's part of their new line which now includes some XL stamping plates. This plate is the Flowers & Leaves plate BP-L001. Overall, I really loved the images on this plate. They were large enough for my nails (length and width-wise) and although they were all flower and leaf themed, there was a variety of images for tons of different looks. They were etched well and the images stamped pretty crisply when I used polishes suited for stamping (I will admit that some of these I used because I thought they were pretty color combos and they turned out to not be the best stampers, so it's no fault of the plates). I've got 5 different looks using the plate to share with you guys. It is perfect for creating springy and tropical looks (and there are 18 different designs to choose from)!

Another thing I forgot to mention is, look at these groovy cardboard covers that they are using now! I really like this attention to detail and this looks really nice and professional!

Multichrome Stamping Featuring Born Pretty Store and I Love Nail Polish

*Some Press Samples Used*

Hi everyone! Today I've got some fun multichrome stamping for you! I picked out I Love Nail Polish Masquerade (H) and Born Pretty Store plate BP08 for the stamping. I started off with a base of Zoya Willa and then did my multichrome stamping. I'm not exactly sure what this image is...it reminds me of abstract jungle leaves or something. It's a really neat image that has a lot of complexity and is large enough that you have several "pieces" you can choose from for a cohesive stamped mani where every nail isn't exactly the same. The plate was etched well and the design stamped really crisply without a lot of bare spots, which I have found is sometimes an issue with images that have wide etching in them. This mani was so fun in real life and the holo picked up a bit more in person. I'm always a fan of multichrome stamping!

Now, some things I want to say about this particular plate. I received an earlier version of the plate and I heard a lot of complaints (and I agree) that the middle images of this plate aren't very usable because they are so small/narrow. I think they would only maybe be wide enough to use for my pinky nail or very carefully placed one of my smaller nails (definitely not my thumb). Luckily, Born Pretty Store listened to the customers and made immediate changes to the plate. (I'm sorry for my crappy picture, I forgot to take a picture of the plate before I used it and the acetone made it look streaky).

My Plate:

You can see below from the new image from Born Pretty Store's Website that they have made those changes to the plate and the images look much larger and nicer now. They did remove the chevron pattern, but I much prefer the images that they kept and I appreciate that they listened to their customers and fixed the issue.

Super Girly Mani Featuring Born Pretty Store and Literary Lacquers

*Some items in this post are press samples*

Hi everyone! Gosh, I have been looking through my folders and I have such a back-log of manis that I haven't shown you from the busy holidays! The mani I'm sharing with you today started out simple enough and then went into totaly girly craziness. I picked up a few polishes from Literary Lacquers' 2014 Community Collection when they launched (I'm hoping to have some swatch pics of my picks soon!), and I decided to wear Effie's Trinket one day because I was feeling like PINK in the middle of December. Once I got it on, it was just so girly and fun that I went crazy with the floral embellishment.

After Effie's Trinket dried, I used the floral vines design from Born Pretty Store stamping plate 05 and stamped with Mundo de Unas White. I previously used this plate here for another design, and it has several other cute designs on it that I look forward to using. It was definitely my favorite plate that I got to review because it could be used for so many looks. Once again, the image quality was great and it stamped pretty crisply. Then to take things even further, I decided to add some Born Pretty Store water decals to the design. I placed the cute floral decals (Fresh Orchids Leaves pattern) randomly around on the nail, and I thought they really brought the whole look together. I really enjoyed this mani as a break from all of the December red and green!

So what do you think of my random girly mani? Is it too much going on for you? I was on the fence at first, but I really liked it! Thanks for looking everyone!

Born Pretty Store Plate 10 Review

*Press Sample*

Hi everyone! I recently received one of Born Pretty Store's newer stamping plates to try out. Born Pretty Store plate 10 (Starfish and Shell Theme) is primarily one large ocean-inspired image. The image is very ornate and abstract in nature with lots of stamping area to choose from. For this mani, I stamped from various parts of this image with gold (China Glaze 2030) over my base (Darling Diva Polish Tina the Labradorite). There are also a few small images on the plate that could be used nicely as accent art with the larger image. The image was well engraved and stamped very clearly, which is imperative for such a detailed design. Overall it's a very artistic plate that I really enjoyed!

Flakies + Stamping with Essie Shine of the Times and Born Pretty Store Stamping Plates

*Some items in this post were sent for review*

Hi everyone! With the recent flakie madness, I decided to pull out one of my all-time favorite flakies, Essie Shine of the Times. What I love about this one is that it is SO DENSE and gives such amazing coverage with one coat. For this mani, I started out with a base of OPI Every Month is Oktoberfest and then I painted on 1 coat of Essie Shine of the Times. I decided I wanted to see what it would look like with black stamping so I stamped over the mani with a leafy image from Born Pretty Store plate 05 (Egypt Style) Stamping Plate and Mundo de Unas Black. The image stamped really nice and crisply, but my base sort of swallowed it up because it is so busy. I feel like it gave the overall look a nice "weathered" sort of feel, but I don't feel like it showcases the stamp as nicely as I wanted it to so I will use it again and do a full review of the plate. All in all, I really loved this mani and the flash of the flakes is so nice over a dark base.

What do you think about the resurgence of flakie madness? I personally love flakies, so I can never get enough! I feel like I have most of my bases covered in my collection as far as these type of flakie are concerned so I haven't picked any of the new ones up yet, but I am still tempted... Thanks for looking everyone!

CYNA Fall-ing for Nail Art Challenge: Fall Leaves/Trees featuring Born Pretty Store Water Decals

*Purchased by Me*

Hi everyone! Today starts off another Challenge Your Nail Art challenge and it is all fall-themed. Today's prompt was Fall Leaves or Trees and I took the really simple route and used these super cute leaf decals that I bought from Born Pretty Store. I started off with a base of one of my fall favorites from a few years back, Zoya Yara from the fall 2011 Mirrors Collection. Yara has the perfect olivey green base with gorgeous flecks of gold shimmer. The decals I used from Born Pretty Store are called Special Maple Leaf (item DS-090). Then I applied the decals randomly around the nail. They were super easy to work with and there were a good variety of colors and shapes (and a LOT of decals) so you could definitely do multiple manis with this one set of decals. They were also very opaque, so they worked well over a darker color like Yara. I probably took the easy road for "nail art", but I really loved these!

Born Pretty Store Colorful Rainbow Flower Full-Nail Water Decals

*Press Sample*

Hi everyone! I recently reviewed my first ever full-nail water decals from Born Pretty Store, and today I have some more to share with you. These water decals are the Colorful Rainbow Flower pattern (product #16211). Like the decals I reviewed previously, the design is just gorgeous and looks like a mini painting on your nails. I will say that the color of the decals is a bit more muted than the pictures on the website, but I actually prefer the more muted look (it looks more like a painting). I really love using these decals as accents instead of as a full mani, but you certainly can do that if you prefer! On the nails that didn't have the decals on them, I used a-England Galahad.

Falling Into Fall: Vamp + Matte Featuring Pahlish An Caisteal Ruadh and Born Pretty Store French Tip Guides

*French tip guides sent for review, polishes purchased by me*

Hi everyone! It's officially fall now and it's finally starting to cool off just a teensy bit here in the deep South. Well...at night at least. Vampy colors are classic for fall and I really look forward to this time of year when I can dust off all of my vampy polishes (although I have been known to wear them pretty much whenever). Another thing I LOVE to do with a vampy polish is matte it...especially if it has some sort of amazing shimmer or flakies in it. This mani pretty much encompasses all of these things.

Born Pretty Store Full Nail Green Lotus Water Decal Review

*Press Sample*

Hi everyone! Today I have a mani that is quite a departure from the fall inspired looks that I have been favoring lately, but it is totally refreshing and beautiful! I recently received some full nail water decals from Born Pretty Store for review. I have only ever used the smaller decals in the past, so this was a new experience for me. I was a bit nervous to try them, but I was pleasantly surprised with the finished result.

The water decals come in a full sheet that you have to cut apart and there are 10 decals in sizes to fit all of your nails. I was worried that they would not be wide enough for my nails when I first saw them, but it turns out they were pretty darn close (and I have wide nails). I would recommend to paint on a base color that is similar to the background of the decal you are applying just in case there is a sliver of nail on either side that doesn't get covered (I used KBShimmer Honeydew List with these). The decals I used were the Green Lotus Pattern (item XF1420). You apply them similarly to regular water decals in that you soak them in water and then lift them onto the nail and position them how you want them. While they are still damp, you can use your finger to smooth out any wrinkles that might occur (but be careful and try to avoid wrinkling them if at all possible). You can then you trim off the excess bits that are hanging over the ends with nail scissors, but to really finish off the ends and around the cuticle, use your clean-up brush dipped in acetone and the decals will "clean-up" just like polish to create a clean line and it will also seal the tips. Top with a topcoat and you are done!

Here is a close-up of the thumb. It really is such a gorgeous design, almost like a painting.

For my other nails, I also used KBShimmer Honeydew List as the base and then lightly sponged on KBShimmer Stonewashed (that I had thinned out with acetone) to create a subtle mottled look. Of course you can pick up KBShimmer's fabulous cremes on their website.

Overall, I really liked using the full nail water decals much more than I thought I would. I will have to say that they are a bit more time consuming and finicky than regular water decals just because you have to trim them and be more careful with positioning, but they were still pretty simple to use. And you can't argue with how gorgeous they are! I have some more that I will be wearing very soon that very different than these, but just as pretty.

2 Fall-Inspired Nail Designs featuring Zoya Ignite and Entice and a Born Pretty Store Stamping Plate

*Press Samples*

Hi everyone! I'm totally switched into fall mode now and I'm craving darker colors, duo/multichromes, and glitters, so don't be surprised if you see a good bit of these things worked into my upcoming posts. I'm sure I will have a small summer relapse before it's all said and done, but fall is on my brain!

I was really inspired when Zoya's Ignite and Entice Collections hit my doorstep because all of the colors were so harmonious. Around the same time, I received a stamping plate in the mail from Born Pretty Store with this wonderful brocade design, and I knew immediately what I was going to do with it. For this first mani, I started with skittles of Zoya's Ignite Collection (thumb-pinky I used India, Sansa, Autumn, Remy, and Teigen). Then I used a gold metallic polish (Face It Platinum Nails GL111) and Born Pretty Store stamping plate QA90 for the design. I thought this mani was totally lush and decadent!

Here is a closer look at the Born Pretty Store stamping plate QA90. As you can see it has some brocade and arabesque looking patterns that are very elegant. I found that it stamped very crisp/clean images and appears to be well etched all around. A lovely addition to my plate collection!

A really easy nail art look that you can do without fancy tools is a dotticure. I really like random dotticures with a mixture of large and small dots because they are easy to do and I love the look of them. For this mani I used Zoya Nyssa from the Entice Collection as my base and then used larger and smaller ends of my dotting tools to makes the random dots using Zoya Sansa, India, Teigen, and Autumn from the Ignite Collection. Note that you could also use a bobby pin for the small dots and a pearl headed pin for the large dots if you don't have dotting tools. These colors together make me think of fall leaves and I love the sparkle against the creme base.

The Zoya Entice and Ingnite Collections are now available for pre-order on Zoya's website (they retail for $9 each), and they will soon be available where Zoya is sold in your area (I always find them at Ulta locally). Also be sure to follow Zoya on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

So what do you think of these designs? Are you ready to dive into fall like me? Thanks for looking everyone!

Tribal Stamping with Born Pretty Store Stamping Plate

*Press Sample*

Hi everyone! Today I have a stamping plate to show you that I received from Born Pretty Store. This plate has several tribal designs, so I decided to do a skittle manicure with it. For my base, I did a subtle gradient using Pink Punch and Coral Heat from Maybelline's Bleached Neons Collection. Then I used Born Pretty Store Stamping Plate D14 and Mundo de Unas Black for the design. I thought that this plate was etched very well, stamped crisply, and as you can see, the images all go together perfectly for a fun tribal mani. My only complaint was that the images were a bit small, so this plate would not be ideal for someone with larger/longer nails. My nails are on the shorter/smaller side so it worked well for me on all nails except my thumbnail, and the images weren't wide enough to cover it completely.

*I realize that I neglected to take a picture of the full plate for this post, so I will add that in tonight!*

What do you think about this design? I think it is a fun summer look! Thanks for looking everyone!

Rainbow Leopard Mani with Born Pretty Store Water Decals

*Press Sample*

Hi everyone! I recently received these really fun rainbow leopard water decals (item K171) from Born Pretty Store to review. I thought I would use a white base (OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls) so that the colors would really pop. There were hot pink, yellow, and blue decals. I used 2 decals for each nail (you could sort of fit them together like a puzzle on the nail). They were really easy to work with and held up really well. I wore them for 4 days while I was on vacation at the beach and they still looked great when I changed my mani.

Maybelline Day Glow Teal and Born Pretty Store Feather Decals

*Products purchased by me*

Hi everyone! Today I have a mani to share with you that I absolutely loved! This one features another polish from Maybelline's Bleached Neons Collection as well as some absolutely stunning water decals from Born Pretty Store.

After my initial discovery of Maybelline's Bleached Neons, I decided to seek out a few more colors from the line. I found a full display at another Rite Aid and was able to buy the gorgeous blue from the collection, Day Glow Teal. This polish, unlike the Lime Accent, had a great formula and covered perfectly in two coats. It is bright, but also a little muted so it definitely isn't an in your face "neon". I'm a sucker for blue cremes, and this one is fantastic!

Next I added these beautiful feather decals (Item 1724) from Born Pretty Store. When you first look at the sheet of decals, the feathers don't exactly look like they all go together, but when you place them over a base, they are just translucent enough that the colors all meld together for a very cohesive look. The decals behaved well and I had no difficulties applying them. I didn't want to take this mani off!

Be sure to check out Born Pretty Store for all of your nail art supply needs (you can use my coupon code JCX31 for 10% off your order).  I've always had great experiences with ordering from them at very reasonable prices. The Maybelline Bleached Neons collection is limited edition, so be sure to grab them now before they are gone for good wherever Maybelline products are sold in your area (I purchased mine from Rite Aid).
